Painting with Encaustic Medium

I completed  this painting last week:  Toulouse, 22"x22", encaustic, Toni Youngblood 2015 c.

Several years ago my friend, Anna Rhodes in Seattle (http://www.anartistsretreat.com/about.php) introduced me to Betsy Eby during one of our artist retreats on Whidbey Island in Washington State. Betsy re-kindled my interest in painting with encaustic, which I'd first noted when studying the work of Jasper Johns during my undergraduate study of art. Here is a video of Betsy Eby's process of painting with encaustic... http://betsyeby.com/video--

Detail of a drawing of bugs I love to hate.
These prolific insects seem to have no regard for anything but reproduction activities this time of year. It's difficult to avoid stepping on them, smashing them into hinge-side door jambs, etc. How they get into closed homes and buildings is a mystery. It's one big box elder bug orgy out there at the moment. I decided to make a drawing of them yesterday while releasing all my venomous loathing of anything onto them. I had a good, peaceful, sound sleep last night.  "Peace be with YOU!", 14"x10", ink and Crayola on Fabriano paper.

Some things don't need to change...

When we completely rebuilt the room off the kitchen, one thing we left the same:  The warm puddle of sunshine for this hound's basking.
